Now, the Panda is much loved by people all over the world. It was introduced to the West by a French Missionary in the mid 19th century. However, it is only since the 1970s that Pandas have become more accessible to the rest of the world. Now the Panda is a great attraction at some great zoos in the world – such as the San Diego Zoo and the Berlin Zoo. In 2008 China gave two Pandas to Taiwan as an act of good will. They are on display at the Taipei Zoo from early 2009. Two Pandas are also due to arrive in Adelaide Australia in 2009. They will be the first Pandas in the Southern Hemisphere. I reckon that the Great Wall of China and the Panda are the enduring images of China. If the word China is mentioned, people often think of the Great Wall of China and the Panda.
