Xian Airport - New and Modern!

Xian Airport is new, modern and easy to get to. Travel to Xian China is easily done through this modern airport.

China air travel is thoroughly modern these days with many Chinese airports new or newly renovated. Chinese planes are modern Western aircraft - mainly Airbus and Boeing planes.

I have travelled on domestic Chinese flights several times and have enjoyed a thoroughly modern aviation experience - no different to what I have experienced in the West.

Xian Airport

The airport is connected by a modern highway to Xian city.

It takes about 30-45 minutes to get from the center of Xian to the airport (or vice versa). This highway is new because it was not there in 2007 but was in 2009.

Previous travellers to Xian would remember a rather slow trip from the airport to the city via some country roads.

Now it is quick and easy!

Korean AirMost of the air traffic at Xian airport is domestic being serviced by many Chinese airlines such as Air China, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern and Sichuan Airlines.

China air travel to Xian China is easily done on any one of many domestic flights from many Chinese cities.

A smaller number of International flights operate in and out of the airport at Xian.

International destinations include Seoul, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Bangkok.

Xian Airport Waiting LoungeThe airport terminal is new, clean and spacious with plenty of seating for waiting passengers.

There are a number of restaurants, shops and a pharmacy inside the waiting area for departures.

Whilst waiting for planes is not really an enjoyable task, the time can be pleasntly spent waiting in the airport lounge.

The food in the restaurants was quite good. The waiting area was not overcrowded which is quite a relief sometimes after battling the crowds at popular tourist spots.

There are shuttle buses and taxis running from the airport to Xian. However, unless you know your way around this could be problematical.

If you are using a taxi make sure you have your hotel address clearly written (in English and Chinese) to show to the driver.

Dropped off at Xian AirportOn my visits to Xian, I have arranged a pickup at the airport and also arranged transport from my hotel to the airport.

Often you can arrange a pickup through your hotel - someone will hold a sign with your name and take you to the hotel (for a fee of course).

Or if you organise a personal guide, they will arrange transport to and from the airport.

My personal guide in Xian did exactly this, picked me up at the airport and delivered me there in time for the departing flight.

If you want a guide in Xian, Selina is a great one!

Han Yangling Museum

Why have I put this piece about the Han Yangling Museum in my Xian airport page?

Well, this wonderful museum is 5 minutes from the airport right next to the highway.

So the last time I was in Xian, I left my hotel early and spent an hour at the museum on my way to the airport. It is an hour well worth spent.

Hanyangling The Han Yangling Museum is the site of the burial place of Emperor Jingdi and Emporess Wang. Emperor Jingdi was the 4th Emperor of the Han Dynasty.

The burial pits are recent restorations - in the last ten years.

The Han Yangling Museum is sometimes known as the "little Terracotta Warriors museum" because it is similar in that the Emperor buried clay figures with him for the afterlife.

However, Emperor Qin buried an army to protect himself but Emperor Jingdi buried clay staues of food, animals and the necessaties of everday life to sustain himself and the Emperoress in the after life.

The burial pits have been wonderfully restored so that viewing is a pleasure.

I thoroughly recommend stopping of at this site on the way to the Xian airport.
