Friendly Chinese girls and women in Sichuan!

Young Chinese girls are beautiful and friendly.

Chongqing is hot.

Chongqing girls are too!

Practise English with a tiny Chinese girl.

Names are easy! They have English names copied from a film or book.

The girls in Sichuan and Chongqing are amongst the most beautiful in China.

Chinese women also play a prominent role in everyday Chinese life.

Younger Chinese women in particular like to practice the English they have learnt at school.

Also the typical Chinese woman likes to show their country off.

The young Chinese girl in the picture is at Jinli Street in Chengdu.

The majority of guides in China are young Chinese women.

Often they are University students who are supplementing their income and practising their English.

I have often found them friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Chinese women are an industrious lot.

I found many in Sichuan selling all types of goods on the street, on trains, in parks – anywhere in fact where a sale could be made.

The Chinese woman in the picture is selling musical instruments on the streets of Chongqing.

I saw many women running small businesses such as restaurants, bars and shops in Chongqing and Chengdu.

They seemed to show a lot of initiative in business and making a living.

Another venture I saw often in Chongqing was shoe shining. Chinese woman would often set up their stools in groups and shine your shoes for less than 5 yuan.

Often it seemed more like a social outing with three or four working together and chatting away in between customers.

You will often find Chinese women selling goods at train stations or even on the train.

You should never go hungry on a long train journey – you will always have the chance to buy something.

However, don’t count on buying something to read unless you can read Chinese!

This is another example of initiative - a Chinese woman vendor at a Sichuan railway station.

It doesn't matter how crowded it is - the vendors will push their way through a crowded railway station and on a crowded train.

Even a packed bus at a bus station is not immuned - they will come onto the bus and sell their wares.

Sometimes you can barter on price but often there is not much room for price change on food items that only cost a few yuan anyway.

Young Chinese women are particularly friendly and helpful.

They have learnt English at school or University. They do not have much opportunity to practice English in Chengdu and Chongqing because there are few Westerners there. So they often jump at the chance to engage in some conversation.

This can be very useful if you are looking for help such as directions.

I would seek out a young person who looked like a student whenever I stood in a train queue (which was very long!).

I would ask them which train I should catch. Often they spoke a little English and were only too happy to help.

The Chinese woman in the picture is playing the Gu Zheng instrument in Jinli Street in Chengdu.

She is at a popular outdoor restaurant where you can eat and listen to the music.

See a Chinese acrobat or dance troupe if you can - Chinese girls make a great contribution with their dance skills.

Chinese women contribute greatly to the music and arts in Sichuan.

I also many Chinese women in senior positions in schools and educational authorities.
